A New Tote for this Mama

Today I am 40 weeks, 1 day. Overdue. Overdue also to blog something. That baby being late is not so bad after all, because I crossed more projects off my to-sew-list than I thought. And sneaked some new ones in, too. Like this happy summer tote. It makes me smile every time I look at it: a new bag, stripes, red, yellow, turquoise.

Summer Tote

It's made from the leftovers of IKEA Vitaminer cotton fabric that I bought for the kid's room curtains (not that I've made curtains yet, I just cut the fabric so I would have leftovers to make this bag...) Oh and YES, I felt the need for a new TOTE arise after checking out Dana's series on TOTE bags.

and the inside...lined and with pockets. (Technically "reversible" but who would want to hide the stripes?)

I added a pocket on the outside, too.

It's boxed out.

orange kisses turquoise? Yes. please!.

butterfly dress & headband

I am home from my sewing vacation and finally brought back my sewing machine. Here is the first project I did... I used a similar dress my girl owns as pattern.

I used elastic in the front and back for a nice fit around the chest... and bias tape for straps.

This is pre-made pleated trim in blue-turquoise. I couldn't resist when i found it in the shop...

For the headband I simply sewed up some solid turquoise cotton and added a cut out butterfly from the same fabric the dress is made of. I also added elastic on the back-part for better fit, but left the front straight. (Elastic is about one third of the headband's length)

A close up of the butterfly... sorry for the hair. What to say - a toddler on the playground!

Sewing Vacation

In less than a week I am going to visit my parents where I will pick up my new old sewing machine. I am counting down to this because I was without sewing mashine for 2 months now. This will be the annual visit for my baby to see her Grandparents so I will have plenty of time to sewsewsew! Right now I am shopping online for supplies and everything will be shipped directly to my parents house hopefully in time and I can start sewing the minute I arrive. Time for an summer sewing inspiration roundup.

feeling mighty red and white... thinking of strawberries, cherries, red sunsets...

[all products show above can be bought online in various dawanda-shops listed here]
