I run out of thrifty T-shirts...Today it happened. The boy (22 months old now) asked to take off the diaper in the park to pee in the bushes. And he stayed out of diapers all day long actually wearing pants. He was running butt naked around the house for several weeks now doing his business on the pot all by himself. But as soon as he'd wear undies he just would not go to the toilet or ask for help. So I left lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-45752356335736955932014-04-03T16:54:00.000+03:002014-04-03T16:54:56.290+03:00The fun is in the making
While turning these wonderful fabric yarn balls above into a small basket I discovered something about myself. For me the greatest fun is in the making. It doesn't matter if it's crafts or cooking or even office work or breastfeeding. The greatest satisfaction for me is the process of figuring things out, how they work, why they work and how to improve them. You see when I wrote breastfeeding lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-91665153332384643112014-03-26T12:37:00.002+02:002014-04-03T16:59:35.481+03:00What it really takes to establish orderSpring is in the air, the almond tree is blossoming in the back yard and spring cleaning advise is all over the Internet. Now my scientific brain had me think about chaos theory last night when I couldn't fall asleep after the baby woke me up twice. Ever heard of chaos theory? Well basically it started with an observation that even natural laws (like Newton's) sometime behave unpredictable, but lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-40442359637005158782013-04-04T20:39:00.003+03:002013-04-04T20:47:51.426+03:00The Very Hungry CaterpillarA couple months ago we started ordering a weekly box of organic vegetables straight from the farm. Not only are the vegetables healthier, the box is like a weekly surprise package that brought some new dynamics into the meal planning department... but the best thing about organic vegetables (at least for the 3-year-old in this house) is the life that comes with it. My baby boy is turning 7 months old this week. The days are loooong, mornings too early but months just fly by... Now that little guy is sitting and crawling and pulling himself to stand.
This made life easier and harder at the same time. Easier, because sitting up makes for a happy self-entertained baby (aka sewing time for mommy) but crawling and pulling himself up and openinglydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-59415833412035577272012-11-03T11:30:00.001+02:002012-11-03T11:51:10.765+02:00Preparing Saladso...while I still try to cope and adjust to life with 2 children, my 2 1/2 year old daughter is taking care of us ;-) she is really into "helping" with all sorts of chores around the house. And lately she is asking almost daily to prepare "salat katan" (=a small salad). She can do it (almost) all by herself. Overdue. Overdue also to blog something. That baby being late is not so bad after all, because I crossed more projects off my to-sew-list than I thought. And sneaked some new ones in, too. Like this happy summer tote. It makes me smile every time I look at it: a new bag, stripes, red, yellow, turquoise.

I had a few hours of me-time (well as much me, as there is left with the company of a 37 week bump) and I really made the most of it. Turning the AC on, homemade ice coffee, sewing session. I moved my sewing machine to the dining room, because I have air conditioning there. The sewing room really turned into a "sweatshop" and I couldn't do it any longer...lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-74282082209151205092012-06-21T14:00:00.000+03:002012-06-22T12:10:38.940+03:00DIY Magnetic Color/Shapes GameFor a few months now my two year old daughter is really interested in colors, shapes, sizes and matching things. And Stickers, those stinkin' fun things that little people use to decorate your furniture when you're not looking. So one afternoon I pulled out my ever growing collection of free fridge magnets to make this:

Or a maternity tankini, to be exact.
I love how it turned out, and believe me, it was much easier than one would think. And when I knew I would have a summer pregnancy and started looking around for maternity swimsuits, I could only find really ugly or really expensive ones. And since the price for this pretty spandex fabric was 5 bucks for the meter..lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-78960579924396454132012-05-27T13:52:00.000+03:002012-05-27T13:56:09.087+03:00Week 27 & 28: Tiered Skirt and Simple Maternity Top
Technically I am now 29 weeks, but heck, I've been sewing a lot clothes lately (mainly because I owned hardly anything that fit me anymore...) But between sewing, wearing and washing not much photographing took place. So here two late projects... the tiered skirt in a lovely coral colored lightweight super soft fabric that is a dream to wear in the summer but not so much a dream to sew lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-82526463655570380622012-05-08T15:25:00.000+03:002012-05-08T15:30:28.030+03:00French Memo BoardI found another use for my beautiful apple fabric that just makes me happy when I look at it: a French memo board for my kitchen. I used an old canvas, sewed two pieces of fabric together, stapled them on and added some ribbon. I hand sewed some buttons on and that's almost it... Now I finally have a place to put some of our pretty postcards and wedding invitations.

Remember these?
Time to share a few patterns...
The following patterns are really just patterns as in which color bead to use when in order to get a certain picture. For a more detailed tutorial on how to weave a bracelet with fusible beads go here.

You know those cheap-o doll strollers. The fabric and make is so cheap it breaks easily, especially if some 2 year old keeps sitting in it... and since we like recycling and sewing over here, it simply wasn't an option to throw the perfectly good frame out after the fabric part ripped. My friend - the seam ripper - helped me take the old thing apart completely to use as a pattern. I recently read over at ikatbag about her daughters' love for Perler beads and it brought back childhood memories. As a child I especially loved a coaster at my grandpa's house that was woven from beads the same size as Perler (or Hama or IKEA PYSSLA) but they were made form ceramic or glass, not plastic. It was a beautiful coaster. Anyways, my 2 year old loves beads at the moment and I just lydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4220328535739828140.post-33705770858959661552012-04-17T17:27:00.002+03:002012-04-17T17:27:58.662+03:00Week 23 - Leggings?or maybe pajama pants? Not sure yet. As for now these are my "hang out at home in the hot weather pants"... No pattern used, just some other leggings for orientation. By mistake the back was too low, but it turned out perfect for maternity, since I added the extra wide waistband the front fits nice around the belly without bulk on the back. A perfect fit cutting mistake.

Today just two shots of my latest addition to the maternity wardrobe - a simple linen skirt. I used an old skirt that I loved and that almost still fit as a pattern and added an inch or two for ease. Instead of a button or zipper I added a typical maternity stretch waistband.
The fabric for the skirt is Robert Kaufman Essex Linen (a 55% Linen, 45% Cotton blend) in colors Aqua & Linen. Here I am at 20 weeks. The bump is growing, the boy is starting to be more and more active. And the sewing fun has started... When I first saw that lovely elephant print on jersey I knew I had to buy it. I love everything about it: the combination of colors, the floral elements in the design and of course the beautiful elephants. I made it just before the winter came and wore it once... which is why I haven't shared it until now. After the wash it was shamefully burried in a drawer with nice warm sweaters. So now that spring is here and I am pregnant I thought it's time to share this top that's so perfect for maternity wear!

Did you ever wonder how a gingham weave would look like in a circle? I was playing with this in my mind for a while but it was time to do a little weaving project to make it visible for you...
The circle is really small, so the wool is sort of bulky in the middle and the whole thing is not laying flat, it's not finished properly but who cares?! The only purpose for this little project was tolydia.purplehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09231450877837441718noreply@blogger.com0
